• Individual Assessment and Tuition
With a maximum cohort of 12 students there is ample time for a one to one assessment session where you will be invited to discuss your individual aims and establish what you want to achieve. During the week you will have the opportunity for at least two further 40 minute individual lessons.
• Ensembles
Playing in a duo, trio or quartet format, you will be given guidance working on a standard repertoire in your chosen genre. This activity gives you a chance to develop your own arrangements and to put into practice material covered in Theory and Improvisation classes.
• Basic Theory and Musicianship
Many of the practitioners of Blues Guitar and Gypsy Jazz guitar learned to play without any formal study of music theory or the ability to read and write music notation and so can you. HOWEVER even a basic grounding in the rudiments of music and how they apply to jazz can help to vastly accelerate your learning experience. This module covers the “nuts and bolts” aspect of what makes music work. Lessons are conducted largely away from the instrument and deal with methods of understanding the three core elements of music making; rhythm, melody and harmony (see Courses)
• Intermediate/Advanced Theory and Improvisation
For those who already possess a working knowledge of the rudiments of music. This module investigates chord/scale relationships, chord extensions, substitution, re-harmonisation and how to incorporate these into your playing (see Courses)
